Birmingham

Well.....The Festival of Quilts is over for this time!
It was my first visit and a great experience.

...so big!

I had planned to visit Birmingham for quilte a long time and  when my quilt Catwalk  was to be shown at EQAs exhibition ¨Diversity of Europe¨ then it was an occasion to go there.

I was pretty excited about how the the exhibition would look like....... nervous!

First of all....I found it!

 Hmmmm ..... what beautiful quilts!

EQAs 18 countries have each selected a quilt representing their country in this show.

Many different approaches and techniques!

Well.....I have about a hundred photoes of quilts and notes! Beautiful, exiting ones!

I like to share some of them with you.......so I'm back soon

Happy Quilting!

workshop..yea!

Thanks to Jette Clover and Katriina Flensburg for a great workshop and weekend at Quiltakademin. A lot of new knowledge and inspiration! Good food and lovely compani!
Soo, how did it turn out?

We started out with experiment in collage. We used paper, cutting, tearing and folding to make collage in several sizes. Then we  discussed our layout and worked again to improve the composition. A very useful exercise to explore the elements of design
and improve your skill to see and create interesting compositions.

One of the things I learnt was ¨less is more¨....I have a bad habbit of taking in to much!

Then.....wow! Fabric...paints....colors...

I love it!

We worked with textile paints in a playful way
putting my personal expression in fabrics.
Just go for it!

Much fun! :)

Next step was exploring the techniques such as mono printing, gelatine printing
and how to transfer paper to fabrics.

Great fun!

I had some decorating magazines and I kind of like chairs!

Soo...this was my theme!

This is paper transfered to different fabrics....my own designed fabrics.

Now when I have learnt some of the techniques the real work starts!

First of all..... continue to experiment and find my own way to use the techniq.

How can this technique make my quilts more "talking" and interesting in a personal way?

Well.....there's some work to be done!

Hi there!

Time flies when spring comes and suddenly it's almost SUMMER. I spend a LOT of time in the garden ..... I have  lots of plants to take care of, bushes to plant and a new hedge is to be constructed. I've become sort of an expert at digging .......puh.
Today I built three trellises to be set up and then it should be planted around them ..... then ....... and then. I wonder if I have too many projects going on  :) ....?

Maybe I should spend more time sewing?

Inspiration is needed?

Soo...I have something great coming..

where Jette Clover has a workshop for two days.

Two days to explore design through collage!

Look at these fabulous quilts by Jette!

We are going to work with both paper and fabric and the integration of these materials.
We will apply the design with different printing techniques such as monoprinting and gelatine printing. I have never tried it....so it will be so exiting!

I hope to learn a lot.......and us it in my way to express something personal in my quilts.

Happy Quilting!

...blue

First of all I want to thank all of you who wrote
such  kind and encouraging comments in my last post.
 Hugs to you all!

Now what's on......

I've been searching for shades of blue in Roslagens pearl Öregrund.
But it was probably not the right place .... Öregrund is a coastal town with a lot of pastels in yellow and greenMost blue colors I found in our own garden. A rake, boots, kid's glasses and a lot of plants, of course.

.......... the scarecrow is pretty sweet.....:)

To celebrate the arrival of spring is a lovely tradition, and it was a fantastic evening at the sea with fire and song....... luckily enough no firecrackers.....the light was magical!

........the sun sets in the sea .... and a loving couple see only each other.

Spring
 is here ...... I thought !

At home in
 Jämtland again.....and it's snowing ..... yes snowing!

Great news...

I'm so happy that ¨Cat Walk¨ has been chosen as Sweden's contribution to the
European Quilt Associations exhibition " Diversity in Europe" during the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham. European countries are invited to participate with one quilt each .. I hardly belive my quilt is one of them!
Soooo...... in August it's off to Birmingham to experience all the fabulous quilts at the festival. Think how much inspiration to take part in! :)

You can see Cat Walk at "Last stitch" !

This is my first and only attempt to be a model..... I promise!

......hey..... where are those long shapely legs?

......... are gorgeous but I stand to pose for two minutes before my feet hurt .....puh!

Midst of all the amazing things happening........
... my tulips are blooming ... check which works of art nature offers.

Spring does work wonders... it's time to make a new quilt .. something spring-like?

Lovely Sunday!

What a lovely sunny spring day! It happens a lot of things both outdoor and in the conservatory.
Fig tree leaves burst and tiny figs grow .... wonderful!

I sat in my comfortable lounge chair in the sun and quilted on my Kaffee Fasset quilt.
The light is fantastic and then it's easy to make the stitching.
It's sort of a meditative feeling to let the needle and thread do the work.
A great feeling to bring along!

Last stitch

Now, the last stitch is done and the project finished. It feels so great :o)
It's been a long process from the idea that showed up last summer when I had a boring night.
Suddenly  the idea of models came up and I began to sketch on the nearest paper.

In what poses are a model most often in anyway?

Off to the nearest store and buy a fashion magazine to study the fashion world closer.
Fashion has been a blank page for me.  To study the pages on the Internet was also good.
aha ...new knowledge doesn't hurt!  I was thinking about colors and went through the piles of fabric .... picked, concidered. Then it was time to start drawing a workable pattern of different models and sew examples to see if the idea was feasible ..... and it was.:o)
Then there appeared ideas as the project was in progress. Print, paint and apply.
It turned out that my square long-legged models needed a contrast ...... so I made the curvy models like shadows ....

Here's Cat Walk!

The quilt measures 40x51 inches.

Close-up!

Summer turned into fall and winter...and when spring is knocking on the door Cat Walk  decorates our conservatorie and daffodils peeps out in my pots.

Happy Quilting!
